I will post local information for travelers/mariners transiting/visiting in the vicinity of Amelia Island, Floridduh, including the intercostal waterway. I know what it "feels" like to travel in a new area and be an "out of towner" ... exciting at times at other times: "YUCK!"...I love being a tourist.

I havn't a clue where to place the following information on this web site. So I am placing the information in the next paragraph here temporarily, until I figure out where it would do the most people the most good. Last evening Saturday, 30July2005, I nixed, canceled, scratched my training in Orlando, FL. Reason: I was informed No dogs allowed (NDA). I do not put our mutt in a kennel. She is a part of this family. She stays with both of us or one of us. Besides, she is a great pet, quiet, you never know she is around. She is great on a boat, at the docks, around children and people. She is NOT the problem. I am off of my 'soapbox' now. My admiral is away with her friends and only the Lord knows where they will be (and he ain't tellin me) and when she will return to me. So my mutt and I are together on an island! We are both very happy. My tail is wagging, not as fast as hers, but nonetheless wagging.
The purpose for writing about our mutt is simple. She will be on our future dream boat. Which will present some dilemma's for her I'm sure. So my brilliant idea is to allow her to be the commissioner, commissioning agent, and Top Dog when Dreams Float is commissioned in a day or so. I did notice she has been practicing on the Proline trailer tires and the parking area. I have confidence in her, she will be ready to perform on command. Since our Admiral is away, and I have not been able to contact (cell fone no work here) her to let her know of my brilliant idea, I know she and invited dignitaries, will be impressed. I have alerted the media, US Navy, and one Merchant Marine. DOGS ILLUSTRATED is sending a photographer and two poodles to cover our first Dreams Float Significant Emotional Event (SEE). After the commissioning sarahmonie, I have invited all the counts, no counts, and discounts for a meal around the square table. Me, being a few freedom fries short of a Happy Meal hopes my admiral will be flopper gassed with all the hoopla. Because you will always miss 100% of the shots you never take.
Lucky me, I got 'mail', went to meet a man who replied to an email I had sent him in reply to something he had written in October 2004. Never expecting a reply. Lesson learned: Expect the unexpected! This man, whose name is Mike, is a full time liveaboard living with his wife on their trawler docked at Amelia Island Yacht Basin. Mike and I arrange to meet at his trawler. WOW! Shazaam! I am on my way. It's too hot here for my mutt, to be left in a car, to walk on the pavement, etc. She is fine home alone for a short while I pray. I pray often, like this as an example: "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us some e-mail".
The first of many beautiful trawlers greeted me when I arrived. A 40' white trawler, with blue trim and lots of gleaming wood. Mike did tell me the year, make and model. Oh well, have to revisit that information somehow, lost somewhere in my brain.
Now this is my perception of the events of our meeting. My perception is my reality, but it does not mean it is true. Somewhere in our conversation, Mike said that a Nordhavn was docked close to him. "STOP!" "Say that again, Mike, please." As it turns out 'TRITON' is docked a few slips away, within our walking distance. We did walk over talking, to see 'TRITON' . What a gal! Vavavooom! 'TRITON' that is. 'TRITON' is a 2003 47' Nordhavn. Maybe, one day 'TRITON' will have me aboard as her guest, maybe. I am so happy that dogs are not allowed where I was going in the west coast of Florida and the Orlando, Fl area.
Back to Mike, I really appreciated Mike freely giving of his precious time to educate me in the serenity benefits of being a full time trawler liveaboard. Mike, a serene man, enjoying his home on the water in a slip at Amelia Island Yacht Basin. I witnessed the beautiful, well-maintained trawler. I am not saying I was excited, however, I took no pictures, and I cannot remember the make and model of his trawler, other than if I am correct she is 40'. I am not handling the heat from the direct sunlight all that well. I need to climitize to Florida sunshine. Liquid sunshine was fast moving in, so I departed with a big smile on my face and a song in my heart. It is my hope I met a friend, Mike. If you be like me and desire to be a passagemaker, or you are interested in being a liveaboard than please contact Mike. I know I will. Please go to LIVING ABOARD magazine online at: http://www.livingaboard.com , click on the tab Forums to read how I first met Mike.
For the young at heart visitors to this site: During the summer time here, it has been suggested to me to wash my clothes in "Tide". The reason I was told to wash my clothes in "Tide" here is that it is too hot out "Tide". According to local folklore businesses selling pleasure boats here often have a sail. A visitor recently told me he'd been golfing but he smelled like the ocean. I think something fishy was up.
